For the last few years, university students have been given the chance to choose a few optional courses in addition to the mandatory courses of their majors.

近期几年来，除去上专业必学课以外，大学生们还有机会选学一些选修课。

Because it has become known that some students end up spending more time on their elective classes than on their required classes, not everyone is entirely satisfied with this system. In fact, some students have even had to drop out of university because of failing grades due to the amount of time and effort spent on the optional classes.

大伙都知道的一点却是，有的学生最后总是花费不少的时间在选修课上，因此忽视了必学课程，所以并不是所有人都完全同意这种选课规范。事实上，有的学生由于选修课占用了很多时间和精力，致使专业课挂科，而不能不退学。

However, I believe that optional courses provide students with many benefits. Not only are students given a platform to pursue some of their own interests, but they are also forced to make some decisions on their own, which is an important aspect of adulthood.
